Bjork: S/t (1977)

I'm going through a Bjork renaissance, and re-discovering Volta (I didn't find it so appealing nor interesting the first time around), and it is merely by chance that I have found some (very) old stuff from her discography, like this 1977 LP she recorded when she wasn't 12 yet: a true gem if you consider that it has been edited and released only in Iceland (and I don't think there are many recent re-issues).
It is obvious that this Bjork cannot be compared to the later genious, the ever new saviour of modern pop music, yet it is funny to listen to the indian extravaganza in the intro of the first song, or to the cover versions of the Beatles' Fool on the hill and Stevie Wonder's Your kiss is sweet.
Plus, there's cover of the LP, that baby Bjork meets George Harrison meets whatever you may considered camp.

And at last the fifth disc, this one called "Strings" as well, that includes 4 more songs performed live with the Brodsky quartet (and a "Play dead" really great with stings instead of saxophones).

So here come Disc 3 and Disc 4.
The first is called "Beats" and contains 4 songs from '91 to '97, with an unreleased one (on official albums) and 3 reworkings, while the latter, "Strings" shows 5 songs beautifully performed by Bjork and the Brodsky quartet live through 1999 and 2000 tours.

Bjork: Family tree CD 1 & 2.

In the next days I am going to post one of my favourite CD Boxes: BJORK's "Family Tree". Released in 2002, between "Vespertine" and "Medulla", this wonderful collection of songs is rather peculiar, being it 5 (mini)CDs, two of which are called "Roots", two are called "Beats", and the last one "Strings", that span throught the whole career of the icelandic singer, with both scarsely or totally unknown songs and re-arrangements or remixes of famous ones.
Today I'll start off with CD 1 & 2, "Roots": in the first you will find five songs played between 1980 and 1987, one of which solo, the rest with Kukl, Bjork's first punk band, and with Sugarcubes, while the second's tracklist is made of five more songs, but this time more recent ones (1996 to 2001) from her solo career, with new arrangements and a beautiful live version of "Generous palmstroke" (one of my favourites) for strings and voice at Accademia S. Cecilia in Rome.
